Catholic worship according to the dictates of Toronto Public Health |
On March 22, 2012 Cardinal Collins having been just made a Cardinal by then Pope Benedict XVI, spoke the following words about Christian witness in the face of persecution and even the possibility of martyrdom.
May he recall his words, his advice, and his warnings.
Pray for Cardinal Collins in the face of this subtle, but brutal persecution, from Toronto City Council and Toronto Public Health.

So true Barona. No doubt many in the Archdiocesan bureaucracy - or even his Eminence himself - read your blog.
I don't think they realize just how dispiriting and demoralizing these COVID masses are. They are fully immanent in the worst sort of way: "Susan from the Parish Council" monitoring parishioners for masks as they enter; interruptions to announce how communion IN THE HAND ONLY is to be done; please go up this aisle and down the other; communion paused so the priest can affix his mask. Contemplating the transcendent is near impossible.
Expect the mask by-law to be around for a long time. The end of 2020? Quite possibly. I'm not a lawyer but can't this by-law be challenged? Churches are limited to 30% occupancy and we're already social distancing. So why masks? Perhaps there is a rationale if churches were allowed to have up to full occupancy, but not now. Toronto Public Health must love sticking their noses in church business.
Your Eminence, many parishioners will simply not return to Mass, so get a call out to your legal team. Catholic attendance at Mass was already on the ropes. Happy to be called a Chicken Little, but if this continues, expect a drop off in attendance of post-Vatican II proportions.
Vaccine Choice Canada has initiated legal action against the draconian measures adopted be the federal and provincial governments. They have used the pandemic to violate civil rights. And the church has cooperated fully. With the closed parishes for three months many of the faithful especially the old will never come back. What damage the secular could not do to belief has now been accomplished from within. We should all help fund the court case in defence of freedom and the right to live without so many government regulations that in the end have proven to be a power grab.
