Cardinal Collins' proposed "letter" to MPPs pleading to reopen churches is an absolute disgrace!

A bowing Cardinal as he pleads with his new overlords: the "public health official"

Dear long-suffering, betrayed, and abandoned Catholics of the Archdiocese of Toronto. A so-called "letter" (reproduced below)  to "amplify your concerns" about the egregious violations of our religious freedoms by the Doug Ford government has been proposed by Cardinal Collins one year after they were taken away.

Where was Cardinal Collins a year ago? Busy locking up our churches

Simply put, the proposed letter is an absolute disgrace, and a grave insult to Catholics who have had to struggle through this year of lies, deception, and abuse. The "letter" is a nauseating mixture of distortions and pathetic fawning. It would have the Catholic Church on her knees begging for a bone from the very people who stole our God given rights (with - we need to remind ourselves - the active cooperation of the Cardinal and his Chancery agents who seem to control him like a puppet). This "letter" is profoundly ungodly, as it asks us to accept lies as truth, and to perpetuate these lies.

Finally, you will notice one last thing: the words "God", "Jesus" etc. are totally absent. The "letter" is entirely horizontal and secular. It could be written by an atheist. Worship necessitates God. How interesting that He is completely absent. If you want a real letter to our politicians, go and read Vox Cantoris.

Cardinal Collins refused LAST Summer to petition to re-open our churches

Commentary on the "letter" is in RED.

Dear MPP is named,

I want to thank you for your service to the province [what service, for agreeing to lock us down, and destroy our economy and violate our religious and civil liberties?]. I know the past year has involved long days and time away from loved ones [NO. Queens Park hours were reduced, and besides the MPPs continued to draw on their salaries whilst businesses were shuttered up]. Thank you.[FOR WHAT? Allegedly doing what you are paid for? Or, shuttering our society, our places of worship?]

The pandemic has been tough on all of us [NO. It has been the lock downs, the destruction of businesses, families etc.] and we understand the need for restrictions to protect ourselves and others [NO. We do not understand nor do we support locking down Ontario for a virus that is no more lethal than a bad flu season]. Yet I can’t help but feel [notice how it is all reduced to "feelings" rather than facts?] that faith communities are not being treated equitably when I look at the latest restrictions implemented by the province [dear oh dear, what forthright language!]

In the “lockdown” (grey) regions, retailers can now open at 25% capacity yet places of worship are limited to 10 people maximum. It doesn’t matter whether the church, temple, mosque or synagogue can normally accommodate 150 or 1,500, they can only have 10 people present. [Finally, some objective truth is introduced. Something we - and the Cardinal - knew LAST March. So why has he been silent for ONE YEAR?]

I know what my own faith community [sic] has done to protect me [NO. I protected myself with common sense as I would in any bad flu season] and others during the pandemic [NO. My "faith community" did NOT protect my small business (now bankrupt, and my employees out of work), my family and children's peace, my parish priest under orders to violate his conscience, my relatives, friends and fellow citizens. The Archdiocese has been an active, EVEN "proactive" collaborator with the State to lock us down, as Cardinal Collins informed us in one of his video conferences].

It’s been incredible [It certainly has been "incredible". The local Church selling out to keep tax free status  and avoid being excoriated by the pro-lock down elitist corporate controlled media]– hundreds of volunteers, cleaning between services ["services". NO! We have the Mass] masks, distancing, all done responsibly. So why are they being penalized? [Because "public health officials" who are godless deem worship of the Divine unessential. Why ask a stupid question, when you know the answer?]

I urge you to immediately address this unfair approach ["Unfair"? Is that all it is? NO. It is outrageous, it is a VIOLATION of our religious and civil liberties. It is tyranny]. I believe our places of worship provide essential services [Is that all? And to further reduce the worship of God to language used to describe a commercial transaction?]. At minimum, they should be given an opportunity to open with a percentage of capacity, whether it is in grey zones now or when considering any restrictions in the future.[NO. This argument presupposes the right public of religious worship is granted by the State. It is NOT].

Please amplify [Is that all?]  my concerns ["Concerns". Is that all they are?] in conversation with your colleagues and Premier Ford.[My, my such obeisance].

I very much look forward to hearing from you on this important matter [ Dear oh dear, are we really that deluded?

Thank you for the great editorial work to expose the truth in Cardinal Collins’ politically correct letter to MPPs. You have done an excellent job in reading between the lines, and we don’t mean the white spaces.

The vocabulary and tone of the proposed letter is expressive of the lukewarm approach of the church hierarchy to most issues, generally speaking. This newspeak that you and others find unacceptable and deficient is lingua franca of ecclesiastical bureaucracies, including educational bureaucracies. Their idol is what they call inclusivity and God forbid that anything be said with conviction or in a manner that can't somehow embrace everything, everyone and of course, never allude to any logic. Yes, feelings all the way! The Cardinal is not responsible for faith communities that do not honour the Sunday precept nor for other religious groups. He deludes himself (yet again) if he thinks that he speaks for all people of faith. That stopped long ago when he failed to speak out the gay straight alliance clubs imposed on our schools. There is a long history of opportunities missed and obligations neglected during a tenure now coming to an end. It ends not with a bang but a whimper.
The proposed letter is hollow because ecclesiastical policy demands that no one be offended and that divisiveness be at all costs avoided. How sadly unevangelical this is! Our Lord was very divisive. Truth is not a matter of consensus and peace is not the first duty of a bishop or priest for that matter. There is no room for passion or truly passionate men or women in the bureaucracies that govern Catholic institutions. It's a wonder that there is even a campaign to write letters. The lukewarm "catholics" that hierarchies pander to are too worried about the virus to bother with a letter and to endanger the life of their neighbors. This is how the tyranny was peddled and imposed and now it's logically impossible to do anything else but clutch one's pearls. The bishop of Rome was the first to pander to the state diktats and the mitred lemmings followed suit. Voices of reason were ignored and silenced. You yourself never received the courtesy of a reply to any letter written out of concern for the devastating consequences of these demonic lockdowns. They know best. Well, they own this as they fade away, irrelevant, ineffective and inefficient. Not with a bang but a whimper...

Who will be the first Toronto priest to be martyred by Covid-19 for risking his life going out to confess anquished souls in the state of mortal sin ? Or from going out to care for the avoided homeless ? Or from going to hold the hands of the dying who are lonely and frightened ?

"No Man Hath Greater Love Than To Lay Down His Life For His Friends"

- St. John 15:23

( Or lay down his life for a stranger... )

This is the appropriate and expected attitude of those who believe in the Eternal Word of Christ.

This genuine Catholic attitude has everything to do with Love - and has nothing to do with polemics or pathology.

Authentic Christian Love is always demonstrated through sacrifice.

Very tragically, so many bishops today use the virtue of "Prudence" as an excuse for cowardice.

The bishops must consider St. Damien of Molokai and St. Rocco as exemplars of Catholic action in their policy formation for pastoral care during Covid-19.
