St. John Houghton - Protomartyr of the English Reformation

On this date, May 4th at Tyburn, in 1535, John Houghton, a Carmelite was hung, drawn and quartered. He is regarded as the protomartyr of the British saints who would suffer for the Faith. The last of the 40 English and Welsh Martyrs would die in 1679 - showing the length of the persecution. St. John Houghton, pray for us.
