Should Leonard Cohen's "Alleluia" be permitted in Church?

This interesting question developed from a conversation I had with Freyr. The question is in our Poll box in the top right hand corner of our blog.

This area is for you to develop your ideas on the matter and join in any potential constructive discussion.

People are voting.... can we have some reflections?

If you mean with adapted or alternate lyrics, then No, but softly, because popular and minstrel songs do sometimes get turned to being spiritual songs. We often sing the Our Father to a Lightfoot tune. I don't like it, but I can live with it.

If you mean with Cohen's original words, then No, Not On Any Account.
