The Archdiocese of Toronto betrays Catholic Education into the hands of the Sexual Revolution

When it was evening He came with the twelve. As they were reclining at the table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me—one who is eating with Me.” They began to be grieved and to say to Him one by one, “Surely not I?”

And He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, one who dips with Me in the bowl.“For the Son of Man is to go just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.” (Mark 14:17-21)

When it was evening, yesterday evening, during the Toronto District Catholic School Board (TDCSB) the Archdiocese of Toronto made an unexpected and last minute intervention to intimidate and force the Board into accepting gender ideology into its Human Rights Code. Just as Jesus was betrayed into the hands of sinful men, so too were innocent children betrayed into the hands of sexual ideologues, to corrupt their little souls. Betrayed by the very men who have been consecrated to defend the purity of children.

Imagine the scene at the Board: there were our Catholic Trustees preparing to make a stand against the aggressive dissenters, and to hopefully convert the weaker members of the Board to Catholic Truth. And then, suddenly, unexpectedly, officials of the Archdiocese of Toronto turned up to make a formal intervention on the side of the - not the Catholics - but the dissenters! ET TU BRUTE!

We reported on the gravity of this situation a few weeks ago. You can read about it here, here, and hereNow we can sadly report that the Archdiocese of Toronto, rather than defend the Catholic Trustees (already under intense pressure and accusations of "intolerance" etc.), rather than make a clear stand in defense of the Catholic Faith, instead, used psychological intimidation tactics to try to force the Catholic Trustees to bend, to violate the Catholic Faith and their consciences to vote in favour of including gender ideology.

There can be no doubt that for the Archdiocese of Toronto to intervene in this unprecedented manner meant that there was some question as to the  Gender Ideologues succeeding. As such, forceful intimidation was deemed to be necessary to strong-arm Trustees into the dissenting camp. No doubt the dissenters collaborated with the Archdiocese of Toronto to organize this putsch against the Catholic Trustees. Rather than defend Catholic Truth and make a stand in a drawn out court battle which would have been thrust upon Catholic education by sexual ideologues, the Archdiocese of Toronto chose to surrender. But for all the strong-arm tactics, the intimidation, the Archdiocese of Toronto still met with firm resistance from Catholic Trustees who would not bend the knee and submit to the lie that Gender Ideology is compatible with Catholic morality.

We can report that four Catholic Trustees stood courageously for Christ and His Church: These Catholic Trustees are:

Teresa Lubinski
Nancy Crawford
Michael Del Grande
Garry Tanuan

Tragically, the remaining eight trustees voted in favour of this evil. Some already were open dissenters, such as Maria Rizzo. Indeed, Rizzo has been very active on Twitter since the vote, gloating and rejoicing! Others, confused and weak, when faced with the "authority" of the Archdiocese of Toronto, found an easy excuse to cave to evil: the Archbishop wants me to vote this way! And who can blame them for thinking this way? After all, the Cardinal is the Authority in the Archdiocese. And if he isn't, if he is a mere figure head, then Catholics had better find out just who is running the Archdiocese, and why Cardinal Collins is silent, and has decided to go along with the horrible evil. If there is blackmail going on, then the Cardinal must come clean with Catholics about this. Was he threatened with a scandal that if he did not go along with this putsch, the dirty little secret about all those homosexual priests in the Archdiocese would be exposed?

Friends, what happened last night was the final blow to Catholic education. De facto, Catholic education (as run by the State) has been dead for well over two decades. However, last night Catholic education was dealt a death blow in principle. Up to last night, it could still be (theoretically) argued that Catholic Faith and morals were upheld, and evil being only tolerated to avoid an even greater evil (e.g. a terrorist attack on St. Michael's Cathedral or another church). Today, we have to admit: evil has now been officially enshrined in our schools, under no less an authority than Cardinal Collins. It is time for Cardinal Collins to resign. He has betrayed the little ones. Cardinal Collins once said that he did not wish to go down as the bishop who presided over the death of Catholic education. Well I have news for him, he just did.

Friends, please pray for your four Catholic Trustees. Support them, let them know you are praying for them. This betrayal is a horrendous Judas-kiss to those brave Catholic Trustees. It is a knife in the back to innocent children, to parents, and to the few remaining Catholic teachers. God will not be mocked in this terrible, horrifying betrayal of innocent blood into the hands of sinful men. Our Lord Himself warned about the punishment to be meted out to those who corrupt the innocent.

"If anyone causes one of these little ones--those who believe in me--to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea".
(Matthew 18:6)

Labour bosses used to have a saying:
*Never go into a battle you can't win.*

Perhaps Cardinal Collins understood this.
His silence may be strategic.
He may be buying time.
He may be planning his next move.
His burden is immense. None of us can share it, though we pray for him.

Gender ideology has now been written into the Human Rights Code of the TDCSB. No doubt subtle pressure was used, even intimidation, but it is a done deal.

How can this have happened?

You give us the answer, Barona.

Catholic education has been dead for over two generations.
Gender ideology made the inroad that it did because the faith, in all its truth and beauty, has not been taught.

This explains why Catholic teachers were out in force at the Gay Pride Parade in Toronto.
They don't know Catholic moral teaching.
They can't see beyond the rigid boundaries that are cunningly set by our decadent media and entertainments industry.
They are *children of their time*, a condition which G.K. Chesterton warned us to avoid at all costs.

Cardinal Collins is as much aware of the sea-change in society as we are; indeed more so, since he carries the terrible burden of it in the high office he holds.

And the Cardinal is all too aware of the paradigm shift in Rome under this misguided papacy. He can't fire off verbal rockets on social media as we are free to do.

Either the Church surrenders to the world or it stands up to the world.

Either the Fr. James Martins are right or they are wrong.
So wrong that the Church, 10 years from now, will be little more than a fancy dress show which panders to the god of this world.

Our culture of self-worship wants to set itself up in place of God.

Faithful priests like Father Mark Goring of Canada (YouTube) are ready to proclaim unpleasant truths about our spiritual poverty, like the prophet Jeremiah.
Fr. Goring has been silenced by his American bishop for doing so!

If the Church could just reclaim her prophetic power, a power she only holds because it was given to her by the Risen Lord, then the Church would be in a position to confront our pagan culture and offer the only alternative ... the Cross of Jesus Christ.

Between optimism and despair, optimism is the more dangerous.
We are rescued from despair by the Resurrection, but the Cross rescues us from optimism.

The optimism inherent in Gender Ideology (that we can be improved by the application of a new theory of the sexes) will destroy it.

Four Catholic Trustees were faithful to Church teaching; and more will follow the example of Teresa Lubinski, Nancy Crawford, Michael Del Grande and Garry Tanuan.

Now for reasons to hope ... since hope is nothing like optimism.
Cardinal Cordileone has called for *the Mass of the Americas* for November 16 in Washington D.C.

See: *Most Rev. Salvatore Cordileone with Raymond Arroyo*.
World Over. 2019-11-07. EWTN. YouTube.

Could we see the same across Canada and all Europe?

Cardinal Cordileone has opened the door that will rescue us from this hell on earth. The sacrifice of the Mass.

Barona: Where do we go from here?

In 2011 Toronto Catholic Witness had a post, *John Allen at NCR on Evangelical Catholicism* by Freyr. You posted a comment.

John Allen is author of *The Future Church* subtitled *How 10 Trends Are Revolutionising the Catholic Church*; his book came out before Pope Benedict retired.

I'm never happy with the term *revolutionising* because I know that revolutions consume their own children, but I shall order a copy of Mr. Allen's book from St. Paul's Bookshop.

Evangelical Catholicism, based on sound catechesis, is the way forward in Canada and elsewhere.
But it raises an immediate problem.
How do you convert the heathen when Catholic teachers are behaving like heathens, and disporting themselves in *Glad To Be Gay* T-shirts?

In England there is an organisation called Catechesis of the Good Shepherd which, I believe, offers resources under the Centre for Catholic Formation.
If there is not such an organisation in Toronto then it's time to start one.

It would be useful to study the street preaching movement begun by Frank Sheed and his wife Maisie, defenders of the Catholic faith.
You were not allowed to preach unless you were well grounded in Catholic apologetics, and knew the mind of atheists and Protestants.

I read a biography of Frank Sheed years ago.
His son, the novelist Wilfrid Sheed, wrote a book about his remarkable parents.

Many years ago I was friendly with a Catholic convert who was critical of the Modernist approach to Catholic religious education in his children's school.
He believed R.E. had become much too sociological; and the children were not being taught about the sacraments, prayer, the Rosary, Church history, or the Church's great saints.

This man had been educated at a private Anglican school (we say *public school*) in England and had married a devout Catholic woman from Holland.
The couple then raised their children in central Scotland.

I remember that my friend's wife had two brothers in Holland, both traditional priests; and she told me how morally corrupt the *runaway* Dutch Church had become, with homosexual clergy protesting against the visit of Pope John Paul!

The BIG question is: How can normative Catholicism flourish in these abnormal times?

The rot in Holland has spread everywhere.

We don't have a Pope John Paul to publicly humiliate James Martin by defrocking him and scolding the Jesuits General.
We have a wrong-headed Jesuit in St. Peter's chair!

How do we reclaim Catholic moral teaching when our schools are going the way of Gender Studies, and when our teaching orders, such as the Society of Jesus, at least in America, are embracing the sexual revolution and calling evil good?

If our best bishops and cardinals are unhappy with the direction of this pontificate, what can they do?
These shepherds of souls have a staggering responsibility.
Unlike the laity they have to live with this problem every day of the week!

The Holy Spirit will renew the Church, but right now I feel we are in a strange land without a map.

Post-Christian Europe has now become Antichrist Europe.

Richard Dawkins encouraged students at Harvard to show their contempt for Catholics who believe in the Real Presence.
He and his kind are determined to close the last faith schools in Britain.

Is this the way it felt just before the Catholic Counter Reformation?
Father Ignatius was granted an audience with the pope, and asked if he could be granted permission to start a new priestly order, the Society of Jesus.

Right now we are in the dark night of the soul when, as Scott Fitzgerald said, *it is always three o'clock in the morning.*

*Lead Kindly, Light, the day is far spent.*
