Daniel P. Horan OFM: "WHY I DO NOT SUPPORT THE (SO-CALLED) MARCH FOR LIFE"

"Why I do not support the (so-called) March for Life".

Yes, those are the words of Daniel P. Horan OFM, supporter of the militant feminist, lesbian, pro-abortion and pro-gender ideology, "Women' March".

In fact, it is the title of an essay written by Horan in 2012, and later included as a chapter in his book, Dating God.

The website, The American Catholic has done Christ and His Church a great service, when they published an excoriating rebuttal of the 2012 essay :"Why I do not support the (so-called) March for LIfe".

Donald R. McClarey, who publishes the website, noted that he first became aware of Horan's essay when reading a laudatory review of it on the ultra-modernist National Catholic ReporterHe proceeded to shred Horan's pathetic essay, replete with heresy, blasphemy, lies, half-truths, deceptions and pro-abortion propaganda. An essay truly composed in the vestibule of Hell.

Official "Woman's March" position on Abortion and Gender Ideology

It is extremely important for Catholics, and  all men and women of good will to read this hateful and evil writing, especially in lieu of Horan's praise of the "Women's March". A march - that also included pornographic and horrible acts of self-degradation by women, as well as signs and posters expressing violence and hatred towards men - that was founded upon the pillars of abortion and gender-ideology.

Catholics should consider how it was possible that Theodore McCarrick ordained then "Brother" Horan, given that his dissenting essay was public, and re-published in Horan's first book (nothing like re-hashing old trash to make a few quick dollars).

Reading this, one truly realizes the depth of the crisis in the Church, with Judas priests like Daniel P. Horan. I also highly recommend readers to Vox Cantoris for further revelations about this "Franciscan".

Daniel P. HORAN:  However, it [ABORTION] is not, at all, the most important issue, nor is it the single issue upon which Catholics – or anyone – should focus in an exclusive manner.

Donald R. McClarey: Why not? Most great evils in this world have been removed due to a single-minded focus upon a particular evil for a time.  The crusade against slavery in this country comes immediately to mind.

Abortion belongs to a series of social sins of a systemic degree that include capital punishment, war and violence, limitation of social services for the least among us, economic inequality, abject poverty and other threats to the dignity of human persons in our culture and globalized world.

Ah, the “seamless garment” in all its threadbare glory.  The Pope disagrees with you brother.  Here is an excerpt from a letter he wrote as Cardinal Ratzinger.

Not all moral issues have the same moral weight as abortion and euthanasia.  For example, if a Catholic were to be at odds with the Holy Father on the  application of capital punishment or on the decision to wage war, he would not  for that reason be considered unworthy to present himself to receive Holy  Communion. While the Church exhorts civil authorities to seek peace, not war,  and to exercise discretion and mercy in imposing punishment on criminals, it may  still be permissible to take up arms to repel an aggressor or to have recourse  to capital punishment. There may be a legitimate diversity of opinion even among  Catholics about waging war and applying the death penalty, but not however with  regard to abortion and euthanasia.

Some will claim (likely in the comment section below) that abortion is more egregious than those other things because of the so-called innocence of the fetuses whose life is prematurely ended.

“So-called innocence” of the fetuses?  Brother, if the unborn are not innocent then there is no such thing as innocence.

Yet, innocence is a construct that has theological and ethical implications and characteristics that have been explored on this website as well as on the excellent WIT: Women in Theology website. I will not rehearse those discussions here.

Just as well Brother Dan.

Instead, what is necessary is to recognize the shortcomings of what is too often uncritically lauded among certain sectors of the Catholic and more broad Christian communities as the “pro-life” event par excellence. In fact, it is a striking showing of support for anti-abortion protests, but offers little (with very few, and always marginal, exceptions) by way of a truly Catholic (and catholic, as in universal) pro-life demonstration.

“Seamless garment” this is your cue!

Such an event would include a much broader representation of the issues that also threaten life and human dignity.   And so I offer this rather non-exhaustive reflection on three points I think need to be considered with regard to assessing the (so-called) “March for Life” each January in Washington, DC.

“So-called” again.  Really Brother, your reliance on that cliché is juvenile.

 A. The Disingenuousness of its Title   While those who trek to the nation’s capital to stand in the chilly January air are undoubtedly sincere in their conviction, I wonder about the provenance of the march and its title. The march is presented as a positive effort (hence the preposition “for”), yet it really is a protest against something.

Indeed Brother Dan, they are protesting the killing of some 50 million of our brothers and sisters in the womb over the past four decades.

Ostensibly, it is a protest against a United States Supreme Court ruling thirty-nine years ago that grants women the right to procure safe, regulated and legal medical abortions.

Brother Dan has pro-abort-speak down pat.  There is very little regulation in regard to abortion Brother, and more than a few women have died while receiving a “safe” abortion.  Of course the abortion is never safe for the target of the abortion....

  4. A goodly bishop, which Chicago doesn't presently have, should defrock this sandaled cockroach at once for uttering false teaching, and promoting its representation in the public forum. I agree with the previous poster who said that there is a high probability of the unnatural in his preferences.

  5. Holy Mother Church compels me to treat Brother Horan with dignity and respect. I am also compelled as a Catholic not to engage in presupposition in regard to Brother Horan. Therefore, I accept his claim that he is 100 percent pro-life and accepts Church teaching.

I disagree with Brother Horan's rejection of the March of Life. I considered as to how best to respond to his anti-march stance. To begin, I offer the following example from His Holiness Pope Franics:

Although the March For Life in Rome isn't the March For Life that is held in Washington, D.C., I believe that, in principle, each march in question is similar in principle.

Although she has taken to spew venom regularly at the Vicar of Christ, His Holiness Pope Francis, when Hilarly White was with LifeSiteNews, she, as the following indicated, portrayed Pope Francis differently.

Via the following 2013 A.D. article from Hilary White, I offer the following uplifting and holy example from Pope Francis, which I believe speaks as well to the Washington, D.C., March For Life:

At the following LifeSiteNews link, there is a photo of Pope Francis having participated in the March For Life, as well as a 1:45 video report where Pope Francis greeted and praised the March For Life participants. He also encouraged the March For Life participants to continue their pro-life work. Pope Francis also participated in the march.

-- Pope surprises, delights 40,000 Italian pro-lifers, joins March for Life

    Hilary White, Rome Correspondent

ROME, May 12, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Pope Francis surprised about 40,000 Italian and international participants in today’s Marcia per la Vita (March for Life) Internazionale in Rome this morning, when he left the Apostolic Palace to greet them personally from his popemobile in the street where they were lined up.

"The March for Life brought 40 thousand people to Rome today," organizers announced after the event. "The Pope greeted the march at the Regina Coeli and then met the parade on the Popemobile in the Via Concilazione."

In a shout-out to the marchers from his usual weekly Regina Coeli address, the pope briefly welcomed the crowd and endorsed a European-wide pro-life petition against embryo research.

“I invite you to keep the attention of everyone on the important issue of respect for human life from the moment of conception,” the pope told the marchers.

He also invited all to attend the Vatican’s “Evangelium Vitae Day,” which he said would be “a special moment especially for those who care about the defense of the sanctity of human life,” to take place “in the context of the Year of Faith,” on 15 and 16 June.

March organisers were delighted with the greeting and with the extraordinary surge of numbers from last year’s march, which attracted 15,000 from around the country.

“The welcome of Pope Francis represents the highest recognition for the initiative and the confirmation of the sensitivity of the Pope to the non-negotiable principles, beginning with the right to life,” organisers said.

The pope is known for his strong defense of the right to life.

In 2005, as activists urged Argentina to legalize abortion, the future pontiff urged Catholics to defend the right to life even if they “deliver you to the courts” or “have you killed.”

At a Mass in Buenos Aires on Aug. 31st, 2005 in honor of St. Raymond Nonnatus (Raymond "the unborn"), who is revered as the holy protector of pregnant women, the then-Cardinal said that promoting life is “a road that is full of wolves.”

“Perhaps for that reason they might bring us to the courts. Perhaps, for that reason, for caring for life, they might kill us,” he said. “We should think about the Christian martyrs. They killed them for preaching this Gospel of life, this Gospel that Jesus brought. But Jesus gives us the strength.”

  6. I apologize for having identified Father Horan as "Brother" Horan.

Father Horan (then-Brother) offered the following in regard to the March For Life:

"Among the various reasons one might choose to omit him or herself from participation, I wish to highlight three: (a) the event’s moniker is incomplete at best and disingenuous at worst; (b) the mode of protest has proven ineffective; and, following the second point, (c) the ‘march’ and its related events are a self-serving exercise in self-righteousness, self-congratulatory grandstanding."

Reason A: Father (then-Brother) Horan said that the March For Life's "moniker is incomplete at best and disingenuous at worst;"

I find that petty. When a Pope, bishop, or priest issues a statement on life that, for example, focuses upon abortion only, is said "incomplete" and "disingenuous"?

Suppose that His Holiness Pope Francis issues a pro-life statement that condemns abortion as an "unspeakable crime" (which he has done). Must he then say, "So as not to be 'incomplete' and 'disingenuous,' I must also condemn, murder, unjust wages paid to workers, slavery, human trafficking"...etc?

That is, must each pro-life related statement, march, event, include a list of every imaginable life-related issue so as to be "complete"?

If Pope Francis established a conference to discuss the death penalty, which is a pro-life, Culture of Life issue, must said conference also discuss the Just War Theory (a life-related issue), abortion...?

Must that conference, so as not to be "incomplete" and "disingenuous" in regard to pro-life issues, discuss the treatment of widows?

Sorry, Father Horan, but I don't find it ration to refrain from participation in the March for Life based upon the march's "moniker."
    ==================================================================

Reason B: "the mode of protest has proven ineffective;"

Perhaps it will require 50 years, 60 years, 100 years, 1,000 years before the March For Life event achieves its goal(s). Does that mean that the March of Life should shutdown today?

Holy Mother Church works to obtain peace on earth. Does the fact that peace on earth has not been attained mean that Holy Mother Church's "mode" to obtain peace is "ineffective?"

Or will God's will carry the day in due time?
    =============================================================

Reason C: the ‘march’ and its related events are a self-serving exercise in self-righteousness, self-congratulatory grandstanding."

Does that not constitute the reading of hearts? Did then-Brother Horan practice presupposition?

What happened to the application of Catechism of the Catholic Church, #2478, to the March For Life participants?

"To avoid rash judgment, everyone should be careful to interpret insofar as possible his neighbor's thoughts, words, and deeds in a favorable way."

Father, that is why one should not cast aspersions upon the marchers.

Sorry, Father Horan, but in regard to your negative characterizations of Right To Life March participants, Reason C doesn't "march" in union with the Church's teachings on presupposition (again, Catechism of the Catholic Church, #2478).

  7. Barona,

Part 1 of 2 (with your permission.)

Hello. The following doesn't pertain directly to Father Horan and the March For Life. However, with your approval, I would like to offer the following in regard to the recent indecent (at least during Madonna's appearance on stage) Women's March On Washington.

Let us consider just some words and actions that one would have encountered at the Women's March On Washington and what one would encounter at the March For Life.

At the March For Life, there are thousands, tens of thousands, of Catholics who, in preparation for the March For Life, had assisted at Holy Mass...prayed the Holy Rosary...

Alongside our Catholic brothers and sisters will be found non-Catholics who, in their ways, prepared spiritually for the March For Life.

Perhaps the same spiritual preparation went into the Women's March On Washington. I don't know. What I know is that vulgarity and palpable clenched-fist rage marked this or that speaker. Many within the crowd cheered and applauded said vulgarity and rage.

Proof: (To be offered in Part 2 of 2.)

    Pax.

  8. Part: 2 of 2.

    Proof:

Barona, I posted the following yesterday to Father McDonald's Southern Orders blog.

(I mention that in case somebody may have read my comments in question on Father McDonald's blog. Perhaps he or she is unaware that I had posted the following there. I don't what somebody to think that I have stolen another person's comments to present as my own.)

It is impossible to imagine that at the March For Life event, that a speaker would act in the following fashion...and that many within the crowd would cheer and applauded the following:
    ==============================================================================

I just watched/listened via Youtube to Madonna's "blowing up the White House" speech, which ran for 5:43. I won't link the address as Madonna resorted to foul, disgraceful language three times. I wouldn't want to expose somebody to Madonna's actual words.

Madonna insisted during her address that she was there to offer love and peace.

At the 1:06 mark, Madonna said of President Trump's victory, "it took us this moment of horrific darkness to wake us the...(bleep) up." Applause and cheers from the crowd followed.

Madonna, 3:04 mark: "And to our detractors that insist that this march will never add up to anything...(bleep) you!"

The crowd, for about 10 seconds, applauded and cheered.

Madonna, smiled, laughed a bit, then repeated..."(bleep) you!"

From the 3:29 mark to the 3:50 mark, Madonna said that the people present were embarking upon "much needed change...change that will require sacrifice, people...change that will require many of us to make difficult choices in our lives...but this is the hallmark of revolution."

At the 4;26 mark, Madonna said, "...I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House. But I know this won't change anything."

As Madonna's address near its conclusion, she said, "I choose love. We choose love."
    ====================================================================================

-- Leaders within the pro-abortion, Culture Of Death movement would denounce any March For Life speaker who offered, even remotely, the anger-filled, clenched fist-like address that Madonna offered at the Women's March On Washington.

-- Culture of Death folks would denounce the March Of Life crowd for having cheered and applauded a Madonna-like speech.

-- If a March For Life speaker employed the foul, vile language that Madonna employed, then the Culture of Death folks would use that to "prove" that March For Life participants are crude, vulgar people.

    - If a March For Life speaker, in line with Madonna's irresponsible "blowing up the White House" comment, had said..."I have thought an awful lot about blowing up an abortion clinic," then Culture of Death leaders would go ballistic. They would demand that, at the very least, said speaker should be detained and investigated by law enforcement officials.

The bottom line is that at the March For Life, it is unthinkable that a Madonna-like person would be permitted to take the stage to speak as irresponsibly and obscenely as did Madonna.

Even if the impossible happened...a Madonna-like speaker appeared on stage...unlike the cheers and applause that Madonna and her address had received during the Women's March On Washington, March For Life participants would neither cheer nor applaud Madonna and her address.

We believe in a good argument. That means NO ad hominem attacks. This also includes Pope Francis. Further, referring to him by any other name, may or may not indicate a schismatic attitude, and given the confusion in the Church your comment will NOT be published. Comments are those of the commentators and not those of this blog. You may use a pseudonym... we do... Behave like a guest in our living room and you will be fine.
