The neo-modernist Jesuit magazine, America, continues to spread the falsehood about Pope Paul VI giving permission for nuns in the Congo to use contraception. This myth is being re-tweeted by CNN's religion commentator and close friend of the militantly pro-abortion Cuomo family: Fr Edward Beck, and the Vatican's English language spokesman, Thomas Rosica CSB.
It is indeed disconcerting that these two celebrity priests would be re-tweeting what is a fiction. But there is a greater evil at work here. America is advocating that one can do evil that good may come from it. Two priests are re-tweeting this morally unacceptable position. It is time that Frs. Beck and Rosica reject this error.
Sp, once again - can contraception be used to avoid a disease? The answer is absolute: NO. One cannot do evil that good may come from it. Intrinsically disordered acts do not - ever - permit exceptions. The solution to this disease is simple: abstinence. It is not hard - a child can do it.
Humanae Vitae: “Though it is true that sometimes it is lawful to tolerate a lesser moral evil in order to avoid a greater evil or in order to promote a greater good, it is never lawful, even for the gravest reasons, to do evil that good may come of it – in other words, to intend positively something which intrinsically contradicts the moral order, and which must therefore be judged unworthy of man, even though the intention is to protect or promote the welfare of an individual of a family, or of society in general (n. 14).
This is not at all a theological opinion which is open to free discussion, rather, as was stated with extreme clarity by John Paul II on 5 Tune 1987: “What is taught by the Church on contraception is not one of the matters that may be freely disputed by theologians. To teach the contrary is equivalent to leading the conscience of spouses into error”.

You are making the same mistake that these tweeters are... namely reading far too much into an offhand remark on a papal flight. Anyone with a modicum of common sense has a very clear idea of the magisterial authority of offhand remarks in airplane press conferences. Someone either completely lacking in common sense or possessed of a desire to use these occasions to further their own ends will tweet, re-tweet, blog and pour gasoline on the fire. He's the Pope, not the Oracle at Delphi...
ReplyDeleteIt is simply amazing (and disgusting) how Fr. Rosica can leap from myth to myth with little or no attempt to fact check the information he is spreading around. A reasonable person could easily conclude that, given his confused performance at the Synod on Marriage and the Family and his attack on Vox Cantoris and past cozying up to the heretic Baum, Fr. Rosica is not a credible witness to the Catholic Faith. His actions tend to indicate that he cares more about acquiring shelf time (market share) for his and others' regressive liberal religion than he cares about the faithful transmission of the Catholic Faith.
ReplyDelete@Freyr, how quickly you make excuses for such grave errors. If he's the pope, he is MORE responsible for providing CLEAR teaching on such essential matters. We have quite the cadre of apologists trying to spin this into the usual "this is what the pope meant in spite of what he said." You can err and sin by omission too, right? Don't you think a pope and his advisors would check into and know the truth about what real popes actually said on such important matters of faith and morals? That is why almost one million people signed a Filial Appeal to get Francis to speak clear Catholic truth. He ignored that and continues his magisterium (small-m) of the media in which people all get the wrong ideas. A perfect cover plan for spreading heresy - people like you make excuses because it's not "official" yet the word gets out influencing public opinion, both inside and outside the Church. The same with Francis' repeated interviews with atheist Scalfari. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. It's called plausible deniability in other words. And you fall for it.
ReplyDeleteRemnant Clergy: It seems clear that you do not believe he is a "real pope". For myself, I am not interested in either your or the curia's efforts to gag, muzzle or control the pope. Neither do I give much credence to the media's efforts to spin, twist and pervert almost everything to suit its own ends. All of these ill fated attempts to remake the Church in their own image have the self at their core and the devil as their inspiration. If you really interested in the truth, go find a catechism, a bible and a rosary and make good use of all three.
