The "Disgraceful Doors" of Our Lady of Sorrows ~ how do $400,000 doors build up the Church?

Go out to the peripheries, to the poor, the downtrodden, the deprived...so Our Holy Father, Pope Francis implores us.

“if we were to remove poverty from the Gospel,
nothing would be understood of Jesus’ message".
Pope Francis

Vox Cantoris asks some very, very serious questions about the obscenely expensive and totally unnecessary doors that have been recently installed at the west-end Toronto church, Our Lady of  Sorrows.

The obscenity - in a city that has great poverty, unemployment - of wasting money on doors is truly staggering.

For all of the boasting of the external "beauty" of these doors, I prefer the true beauty of this church in Africa. They have the Faith. What do we have...?

  1. I don't think the poor are any poorer because of those doors.

  2. I agree with you time for the Catholic Church to end her 2000 years of caring for the poor.

  3. The difference here is that Canada will not burn their church down one day, whereas in africa arson is wide spread & only a match away.

  4. So now we shift the argument to...wait for it dear readers: the racism of lower expectations.

Africa is a beautiful continent of people who are open to life and large families. Africa is the future: it seems that the decadent "West" has the buildings, but they have the Faith.

We believe in a good argument. That means NO ad hominem attacks. This also includes Pope Francis. Further, referring to him by any other name, may or may not indicate a schismatic attitude, and given the confusion in the Church your comment will NOT be published. Comments are those of the commentators and not those of this blog. You may use a pseudonym... we do... Behave like a guest in our living room and you will be fine.
