Whorish performance brings debauched Glasgow Commonwealth 2014 Games to close

“There is no dignity when the human dimension is eliminated from the person. In short, the problem with pornography is not that it shows too much of the person, but that it shows far too little.”

St. Pope John Paul II

There are Catholics who excuse this type of "performance". Would Our Lady excuse it, dress like this? This is nothing but sluttery that would make a prostitute blush not a mere few years ago. Yet, this is "acceptable" and excused. Our society is being pornogrified. No doubt, I will be dismissed as a fanatic. If you believe this is not sinful, gravely so, then that is your problem, and you will answer for it on Judgment Day.

There was a time when the Gospels permeated the Scottish nation; no more. Even remove the indecency and what are you left with? Primitive, sterile mimed noises. This is not music, this is barbarism.

There was a time when Catholics stood up for Mary-like standards: no exceptions, no excuses. We were warned about the world, the flesh and the devil. Well, here it is in all its grotesqueness.

"Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened.” Churchill

UPDATE: No intention was to "troll". The intention to present a few photos was to underscore the vulgarity. As to taking it seriously; please see my other posts on the various Popes call for action on sexual morality. The claim that it is not being pushed is hollow. This was and remains the argument of the pornography industry. It does not work. One does not ignore disease.

However, Freyr does have a point that such vulgarity does not belong on this blog; the point has been made, and the point taken. Hitting "off" buttons, changing channels is not the solution. We could apply that to the killing of Sammy Yatim. Indeed, Lifesitenews was criticized for doing just that. The correct response to evil is to expose and oppose...

  1. There was a time when Catholics stood up for Mary-like standards?
When was that? 400AD, 500AD? When exactly?
I notice you say "Mary-like" as if she were some kind of deity? She was sinful, like the rest of us, as the Bible proves.

  2. How dare you insult my city's games,Absolute shame on you.

I was there with my children and we are all catholic and enjoyed the closing ceremony greatly.

Your comments come across as someone living in the stone age and perhaps an apology would be a good start.

Well, given that your faith breaks one of the Ten Commanments by worshipping a Jewish housewife, I'd say that you're pretty much an intolerant hypocrite.

  4. Dear Earl and Mr. P,

It would be helpful if you read the books that ex-porn stars write about their horrible experience pretending to be happy while showing it all.

I know you don't regard those pictures as pornographic because you are so hardened by our culture. My husband and son avoid all such things as they are trying to live a chaste life. You obviously abandoned that effort some time ago, or you could not so casually sit and watch that performance.

There's nothing new in what you do. If you look at some of the female fertility statues of ancient civilizations you will see that primitive men were interested in looking at naked people too.

Then came Christianity, and women began to understand that what they revealed openly in a pagan culture was intended to be kept hidden and shared only with their husband. This is a joy to be shared privately.

What you showed your daughters, Mr. P., is that they will be liked and respected if they show their bodies in public.

Sadly, my husband and son will be forced to attend Mass on Sunday and keep their eyes closed as your daughters, dressed little better than prostitutes, parade up to communion.

Your daughters will think that dressing that way is necessary to get a husband, but they will find that good men who wish to live chaste lives and then enter lifelong faithful marriages will avoid them like the plague. Instead, they will attract a different kind of man…. You will be responsible for their unhappy lives.

Earl, Catholics worship God alone, and we respect His Mother as Jesus did Himself. Remember He is the same God who said, "Honor your father and your mother." But it says something about your own mother that you think so poorly of the Mother of Jesus because by defending these pictures you show you also think poorly of women.

I don't think there was any anti-Glasgow intention in this article. I think the author is genuinely concerned because the whole of humanity seems to be running straight down the same road you two are. God bless you. Susan Fox www.christsfaithfulwitness.com

  5. Thank you Mrs. Fox for answering the stupid and misinformed comments of the previous posters. I wholeheartedly agree with you, there are no more standards and as you say even going to Mass in the summer months can be an occasion of sin for a male. Thank you to the author of this blog and to you for your faithful witness.

  6. With all due respect, society is not forcing these pictures down my throat. The Witness blog is the sole reason I am exposed to them at all. As I said, if I were confronted with this display on my TV I would have hit the off button and be done with it. I do not like these pictures on our blog. Nor do I appreciate being told to go look at the video to see how su8ggestive the performance was. The pope has been able to discuss the effects of pornography without including samples in the document. I suggest you might also. This post is not about dealing with a serious problem in a serious way. It is about getting a reaction. As such you are behaving as little more than a troll. Cancel your cable subscription and watch something else.

  7. I don't disagree with you Freyr. Glad to see the pictures down, but now someone needs to describe what was there in a chaste manner.

It can be done. I have done it many times on my blog as I don't like these kinds of pictures. Don't use pejorative words like "slut" though. Regard all women as sisters, i.e. my sister whose legs were completely bare, whose face was artificial and unhappy, and publicly wore a costume that suggested she wished to sleep with a man immediately. That's cause for weeping not derision.

It's funny though Barona warned that he would be be dismissed as a fanatic. And he was. God bless you all, and thanks for the kind comments Luciano. Susan Fox www.christsfaithfulwitness.com

We believe in a good argument. That means NO ad hominem attacks. This also includes Pope Francis. Further, referring to him by any other name, may or may not indicate a schismatic attitude, and given the confusion in the Church your comment will NOT be published. Comments are those of the commentators and not those of this blog. You may use a pseudonym... we do... Behave like a guest in our living room and you will be fine.
