Rome-SSPX: "They've got to get rid of Bishop Fellay" - Richard Williamson calls for open revolt

The sad tragedy of Bishop Richard Williamson continues with his call to "get rid of Bishop Fellay". Williamson said his comments within the context of his hopes for the General Chapter of the SSPX; that there would be a revolt and consequent removal of Bishop Fellay.

  1. This is just laughable. He already got banned from the Chapter and stripped of his office. However it seems that his general "anti-pathy" of Fellay has reached the general chapter. comments and reports, especially the latest leaked letter from the Secretary General (July 18, 2012) with conditions for acceptance of canonical status, shows that Fellay has caved into the general chapter's demands.

  2. The sad tragedy of Williamson is that you feel it necessary to mention him at all. A quick review of the stats reveals that 58 of 244 blog entries have been about the SSPX. Your coverage of the SSPX rivals that of American celebrity rags covering the sordid details of a marriage breakup. I think we can set the bar a tad higher.

  3. The issue of SSPX regularization or not, is, I would argue, one of the most important things facing the Church today. We will either have a formal schism, or, a return into the fold which will add a very needed dynamic. Williamson is "important" due to his ability to perpetuate schism, and his ability to goad on those who hanker for schism...

  4. First, Williamson's ability to perpetuate schism is in direct proportion to his exposure in the media and his ability to attract followers. I suggest denying him a platform might be helpful. As for the SSPX, the entire process might go a bit easier if there were not a constant barrage of media leaks. Witness has participated in these leaks and it's not helping. We are not waiting in prayerful anticipation of some breakthrough in negotiations. We are hanging on every rumor, leaked letter and snatch of gossip. Nothing we do apart from prayer can influence these negotiations.

  5. I cannot speak for others; I can say that my posts on Williamson are to shine the light of day on his schismatic attitude - not to gossip etc.

  6. Looks like I smell a schism here on Witness and Barona's going to be the Williamson lol!

  7. Schism... hardly. I have been arguing with Barona for more years than I can easily count.

We believe in a good argument. That means NO ad hominem attacks. This also includes Pope Francis. Further, referring to him by any other name, may or may not indicate a schismatic attitude, and given the confusion in the Church your comment will NOT be published. Comments are those of the commentators and not those of this blog. You may use a pseudonym... we do... Behave like a guest in our living room and you will be fine.
